The Southland Astronomical Society and Observatory

Welcome - You have found the website of the Southland Astronomical Society.

We are New Zealand's southern most astronomical society, based in Invercargill at the southern tip of New Zealand's South Island.

From here you can find out a little about our society and our membership, our meetings and the public sessions we run at the former Oreti Sands Golf Course . The society monthly newsletter can be found on the Newsletter page, and information on our monthly meetings (held on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm) can be found on the Next Meeting page.

Where to find us

Public viewing nights are held at Sandy Point

From Invercargill, head west on Stead Street past the airport. Keep heading west through Otatara and over the Oreti River Bridge. Turn left onto Sandy Point Road. After approx. 2.5km, turn right into Links Road. You'll find our rooms at the end of the road.
